§ [DnD][4e] ダンジョンの解体と再構築
ずいぶん前の話ながら日本語版の『ダンジョン・デルヴ』も発売されたので、私がデルヴのような遭遇セットを一日のセッションで終わる程度のアドベンチャに改造するときのtipsをまとめておくですぅ。
- すべての遭遇が連続したダンジョンで行なわれなくてもいい。
- 物語を作り、それに基づいた遭遇として再配置する。
- 非戦闘遭遇などでパーティの干渉できる隙間を作る。
要点を絞るとこのように箇条書きした程度の簡単なものですぅが、例をあげて具体的にも解説するですぅ。
解体
私がデルヴを改造する時、まずはそれぞれの遭遇をそこまで強く連続しないものとして捉えなおすことから始めますぅ。
デルヴを肉づけするときは戦闘遭遇の前後につなぎとなる非戦闘遭遇を挿入するのが常套なので、それに幅を持たせるためにも同じダンジョンの中で起こる遭遇だという先入観を捨て、頭を柔らかくする工程ですぅ。
意味づけ
頭がほぐれたところで、それぞれの遭遇へどう物語を仕込むか考えますぅ。
ここでの要点はさきにも書いたように遭遇がひとつの場所で起こっていることという先入観を捨て、間にいろいろな事件を用意する余裕を持たせるために話を膨らませることですぅ。
この時、封印されたデーモンを復活するため地域に点在する祠を破壊するカルト、アストラル海をまたにかけ神々の財宝を奪う海賊団など、一回り大きな規模で敵の目的を中心にした物語の大枠を作って各遭遇をあてはめるのが私のよくやる方法ですぅ。
それぞれの遭遇が物理的に繋がっていなくても、物語の段取りとして遭遇に関連性があれば非戦闘遭遇やクエストでそれを支えることはできますぅ。
舞台を広くすることは話の規模が大きくなるだけではなく、儀式の活用や技能チャレンジの提案など、プレイヤが干渉できる余裕を持たせることにもなるので重要ですぅ。ただし、DMが想定する正解がないものはもちろんご法度ですぅ。
意味づけの例
『ダンジョン・デルヴ』に収録されている16レベル対応の『Eye of Flame』を例に取ってデルヴの改造を行なうことにするですぅ。
まず、『遭遇16-1』は説明文から設定をいただき、PCが滞在する物質界に侵攻してきた元素の渾沌勢力の前線基地とするですぅ。
ただ、これだけではあまり話が膨らみそうにもないので、『遭遇16-2』と『遭遇17-3』は元素の渾沌へ舞台を移し、『The Plane Below』で説明があったスルト(Surtur)が治めるサカス・マジム(Sakath-Mazim)で情報収集や潜入を行なう技能チャレンジを挿入することにしたですぅ。
敵の目的は物質界を炉にくべて生命の精髄に満ちた炎を作り、それを用いて“暁の戦”で魔力が損なわれたスルトの剣を打ち直そうとしている、といったところにしておくですぅ。
肉づけ
解体してそれぞれの遭遇に意味を仕込んだら、次は戦闘遭遇との関わりを考えながら、非戦闘遭遇の中身であるNPCや技能チャレンジを具体的に準備する工程ですぅ。
ここで重要なのは非戦闘遭遇のすべてが判定や技能チャレンジを要求されるものではなく、NPCと会話して情報が渡されるシーンでも経験点がないだけで立派な非戦闘遭遇ということですぅ。
経験上、セッション1回でだれない技能チャレンジは1回、戦闘遭遇中など特殊な条件をつければ2回くらいという感触なので、それを基準にして色々準備しますぅ。
肉づけの例
『Eye of Flame』の再構築では、がらりと舞台を転換する『遭遇16-1』と『遭遇16-2』の間をどうするかというところをまず考えたですぅ。今回は次元界の冒険だけど“どう行くか”はそう重要でないと判断したので、『遭遇16-1』の部屋にポータルがあることにしてリンクド・ポータルで起動させるか、パーティに《儀式修得者》がいない場合は〈事情通〉判定で近くの街に儀式を使える術者がいると判明することにしたですぅ。
こうして内部のつなげ方を決めて安心したところで、あらためて導入を決めるですぅ。16レベルPCともなれば物質界では有数の実力者だから旱魃に悩む国王から相談されるとすれば、スルトの前線基地に関する情報収集は既に国王が行ない、『遭遇16-1』に到達するまでのスルト軍は国王の軍勢が引き受けるという物語のスケールに合った合理的な簡略化ができるですぅ。
そして『遭遇16-1』が終わったところで物質界を襲う危機はただの旱魃ではなく、スルトが彼の剣を取り戻すため世界を炉にくべて焼き尽くそうとしていることが判明し、パーティがサカス・マジムへ向かう動機づけを行なうですぅ。
このアドベンチャで最もPCに対する余裕を持たせた『遭遇16-1』と『遭遇16-2』の間はサカス・マジムの一地方、スルツェイを舞台に情報収集を行ない、スルトの剣を打ち直している工房を探す技能チャレンジを行なうことにしたですぅ。
具体的には、『遭遇16-1』のポータルで移動する先はサカス・マジムの外れにある廃墟ということにして、人里を探す、情報を集める、警備厳重な工房の近くへ迫るという3ステージの技能チャレンジにするのがよさそうですぅ。
そして、工房を舞台にした『遭遇16-2』と『遭遇16-3』はそれぞれ鍛冶場、物質界を炉にくべる儀式を行なっている場所とすることで、どちらも残しておけば憂いになるという戦う理由を設定するですぅ。
冒険の結末はパーティ次第の部分も多いですぅが、物質界へ帰還して国の人々に感謝の言葉をかけられるもの、原因であるスルトを倒すため元素の渾沌で冒険を続けるもののふたつくらいを想定しておけばいいと思うですぅ。
まとめ
Tipsというには長々と書いてしまったですぅが、私はだいたいこんな感じでデルヴの解体と再構築を行なってますぅ。
『ダンジョン・デルヴ』のデルヴは敵の種類などでがある程度統一されているので、DMがテクスチャを貼って好き勝手にいじってもそこまで逸脱しないというのも素材として便利なところですぅ。
この方法はデルヴだけに限ったものではなく、『シャドウフェル城の影』冒頭のコボルド退治だけを抜粋して単発でプレイするように、長篇アドベンチャからでも遭遇数個を抜粋してDMが独自に意味づけを行なえば、いくらでも自分のキャンペーンの物語に合わせたものにできるので、翻訳されたアドベンチャが長くて遊びづらいならこれも解体して再構築すればいいというようなことも主張してみたいですぅ。
それから、スルトとサカス・マジムまでは『The Plane Below』で解説されているけど、スルトの剣やスルツェイ地方などは私が今適当にでっちあげた設定ということを註記しておくですぅ。
§ [DnD][3.5e][4e] ダンジョンの解体と再構築、裏話
『ダンジョンの解体と再構築』で書いた方法を明確に意識し始めたのは、実のところ移動や感知系の呪文が質と量ともに増えてくる3.5e高レベル帯だったですぅ。
もちろんそれらのメリットを殺すダンジョンも作ったですぅが、世界間移動を含む瞬間移動や占術によるリサーチはやれて当たり前のこととして特に阻害せず、最初から世界全体、宇宙全体に選択肢をばらまき、処理した遭遇や時間進行など、別のパラメタを参照して段階を移行する形のアドベンチャを作った経験が『ダンジョンの解体と再構築』に繋がっていると思うですぅ。また、これはN◎VAのシナリオ記述や作成法にも強く影響されてますぅ。
パーティが入った部屋を参照して遭遇を起こし、通路でその進行を操作するというダンジョンものの構造は、フラグの立ち具合を参照し、それに合わせて遭遇の発生を管理するというイベント型のシナリオとほぼ同じなので、あとはダンジョンという舞台を解体して風通しがいいように世界のあちこちへ遭遇を拡散させればプレイヤが介入しようとする心理的なセッティングを形成しやすいのではないのかと思うですぅ。
4eではクエストで目的を示した上で、儀式や技能チャレンジでDMがサジェスチョンする解答とプレイヤが行なうアプローチのすり合わせを行ないやすいシステムなので、こういう手法を比較的低レベルのうちから行なえるんじゃないかと思っている次第ですぅ。
